Halloween - a paramita

The trees
Have lost their leaves,
Frost has killed the garden.
Gather potatoes
Onions and carrots,
Stash and horde because
Who knows what lies ahead.

Now the dead rise up
And remind us
Of their fate.
Specters of Sawain
At the door
The goblin,
The skeleton,
The politician
Avoid them
Hide in darkness
And they will
Play their tricks

Tricks are averted
By one measure
Give of yourself
And death transforms
Into something ordinary
Like the kid next door.
